Center for Global Education and Research Seminar: “PEPIS 2025”
The “Practical English for Professional Interaction Seminar (PEPIS)” was held on Friday, October 10, at the Project Learning Space in the SEIREN GLOBAL HUB on the Bunkyo Campus of University of Fukui. This event was organized by the university’s Center for Global Education and Research as part of its efforts to foster talent who will contribute to the development of the local community and lead global society. The seminar aims to provide students with the opportunity to learn to think on a global scale by inviting external speakers.
This year, the seminar welcomed Prof. NAGAI Mariko from the Department of Japanese Literature at Temple University Japan Campus, and Ms. Holly Thompson, who teaches at Yokohama City University and the GrubStreet Creative Writing Center in Boston, to speak on the theme: “Intercultural & Intersecting Lives: Where Stories Come From and Why Stories Matter.”
Following the insights shared by the two speakers on their approach to writing and the process of deepening their thoughts, students engaged in an English poetry creation workshop. This activity allowed them to explore the differences between the Japanese and English languages firsthand.
The Institute for Global Engagement at University of Fukui remains committed to providing opportunities for global human resource development and contributing to regional revitalization through cross-university exchange.
